Review by our friend Thomas Henzler: english / german
The two best days in my music life! Arrows
Rock Festival in Lichtenvoorde (NL) Days
of the thunder and days of the ultimative experiences! Who has had the
opportunity to have a half hour of conversation with Rinus Gerritsen (bassist
of golden Earring) to hang around with Ian Crichton (guitarist of Saga) a
half day, to talk to Nancy Wilson from HEART and to get
an autograph from Jon Anderson (singer on YES)? All this on one
weekend! The
LINE UP of this Festival read itself like a rock encyclopedia anyway: on
Saturday played on 2 stages: TEN YEARS AFTER, Y&T, Paul Rodgers with
Bad Company, Motörhead, Scorpions, Judas Priest, Plaeto, The Godz, Eric
Burdon, UFO, Blue Oeyster Cult and Alice Cooper. On Sunday Caravan,
Syphony X, Iron Butterfly, SAGA, Heart, Fish, Golden Earring, Queensryche,
G3 with Steve Vai and Joe Satriani and finally YES. Did I promise too much?
Even
if the weather with some thunderstorms were rather bad on Saturday, the
crowd had a great time with TYA. Even as rain and thunder came, almost
15,000 spectators stayed in front of the center stage and raved. No
wonders, the band played their soul out and Joe obviously enjoyed playing
in front of a large public. After the show he was talking so much like
never before! I really look forward to see them again in South Germany! On
Sunday Dave and Brigitte unfortunately could not be there any longer, and
they missed something. One thing I learned on this day: long time
practicing musicians are absolutely nice, modest and friendly guys! Ian
Crichton from Saga told me how their new CD it will be and Jim Gilmore (the
Keyboarder of SAGA) told that he looked at the key board of Rick Wakeman (YES)
secretly behind the stage. Also Rinus of Golden Earring revealed some
anecdotes from its life. On
the stage I enjoyed pure power. At first, Heart impressed me most. Ann and
Nancy have still fantastic voices! SAGA offered a perfectly mixed sound
and Golden Earring was able to fire some rockets in front of their “home-crowd”.
One
important thing in the end. This exclusive entrance to the stars would not
have been possible for me, if I had not supported Ten Years After in a
strong way. Here’s
my call up: If Ten Years After plays in your city, go there and
bring along some friends! If you find current reports in any newspapers or
magazines about the band, send them to brigitte@ten-years-after.com
! Believe me, since Alvin is no longer playing with them, the guys revived
and became even better!
