It was a fantastic experience supporting Ten Years After in Liege
and well worth the 800 mile round trip in the car! The band were
very welcoming, as were all the supporters, friends, organisers
and stage crew.
There is a moment when any support act steps out into the lights,
looks out at the crowd and makes a snap judgement on what the next
20 minutes is going to be like. As I looked down at all the
smiling, friendly faces,
I knew it was going to be all right!
The 20 minutes flew by, the crowd were great, the sound was
excellent and it was “warm up the crowd” - job done!
Then it was the other great bit to being a support act,
watching the band from side stage. Joe Gooch was a great front man
and the band still rocked like they did in 1971 when, as a young
man, I supported them on a 20-date tour of the UK. They rocked the
roof off the hall and the crowd went wild!
Afterwards I was there at the back of the hall with Joe, Leo, Ric
and Chick, signing CDs and talking to the crowd. A lot of friends
were made that night and we arrived back in the UK the next day
tired but very happy.
Long live Rock!!
